Museum lovers will not want to miss visiting the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, CA. Located inside are a variety of exhibits for your viewing pleasure. There are a handful of historic aircraft displayed inside the Museum, but the many remaining are outdoors; this area is included with your admission fee/experience.
For those who prefer to have a guided tour, these are offered throughout the day at different times for a small additional fee. The tours are aboard an electric tram and are narrated, helping you to get the most out of your visit.
The very first display of artifacts at the Air Museum was first opened to the public viewing in 1979 but at the then-March Air Force Base. The Foundation for the museum was founded later that same year and the establishment moved to its current location, alongside Interstate Hwy 215, in 1993.
Since 1996 there have been several new buildings added, collections, staff members and constant hard work to make it an appealing venture for everyone. The March Field Air Museum is actually home to one of the largest military aircraft collections on the entire West Coast. The majority of staff are volunteers and there are about two dozen actual employees.
It’s an affordable destination in Riverside, with general admission only costing $12 for those aged 12 and older, and $10 for Veterans. Kids ages 5-11 gain admission with $6 and those 4 and under are free. You can purchase a museum membership and gain free admission anytime you visit.
Parking is free at the Museum unless it’s a special, major event. Group rates are available for guided tours; just contact the Museum. Drinks in resealable containers are permitted as well as pre-packaged food. There are designated areas for picnic lunches if you prefer to enjoy one during your visit.
