If you love art you’ll want to visit the Riverside Art Museum in Riverside, CA. According to their mission statement, the Museum “strives to integrate art into the lives of people in a way that engages, inspires, and builds community by presenting thought-provoking exhibits and providing quality art classes that instill a lifelong love of the arts.”
The Museum is located in the downtown Riverside, in the historic Mission Inn district. The building was designed by Hearst Castle and Julia Morgan (gold medal-winning architect) and was formerly a YWCA facility. The building creates a unique atmosphere where art lovers and enthusiasts can go to quietly roam and truly experience the wonderful world of art.
The Museum is home to solo, group and permanent collection exhibits. You’ll find both contemporary/modern and traditional art on display. In addition, some of the best artists in the world have featured works of art on display including Corita Kent, Kathe Kollwitz, Robert Williams and more. You’ll also find some art works from the talented local artist members as well as art work from aspiring high school students.
The Riverside Art Museum also offers art classes for all ages that teach art technique and history and include film screenings, free activities for families, lectures, book readings and signing, as well as the Museum Store where you’ll find a wide variety of unique items.
The exhibit Are You With Me will be on display through May 29, 2022. This exhibit features 27 oil paintings and 18 mixed-media drawings by Sonya Fe, a contemporary Chicana artist. Her art is quite bright and beautiful but the soul and meaning behind the works are also very intriguing. Definitely an exhibit you won’t want to miss.
Additional temporary exhibits include the Weight of Memory (on display until May 15, 2022) and Places We Walk (on display until April 30, 2022). The permanent exhibit features exactly 2,000 objects. The Cheech Marin Collection features close to 500 works of art that includes sculptures, prints, photos, drawings, mixed-media artwork, and paintings. The artwork from this collection will be available for viewing starting May 8, 2022.
General admission for the Museum is just $5 for general admission and students and seniors can visit for just $3. Members can enter for free and children under 12 are also free, as well as military personnel and their accompanying family members.
